Holiday countdown mode here in the Napa Valley….We’ve got our tree up and I’ve started baking. Holiday shopping is most likely on everyone’s to-do list. As you are looking for the perfect holiday gifts for family & friends it’s natural you’ll also be shopping for yourself—it’s a popular trend called…self-gifting. I heard an interesting statistic from the National Retail Federation…56.9% of holiday shoppers say they plan to take advantage of sales and discounts to purchase non-gift items for themselves, and will spend an average of $126.68.
Some of you are busy making your Santa lists filled with things YOU want for the holidays. I decided to have a little holiday fun on this blog post so we are talking about: 10 Essential Gifts for Social Media Managers.
When I started working on this idea, I talked to lots of my colleagues to gather ideas and I am super excited to share these with you. We’ll cover some of my favorite tools plus I’ll share some new discoveries and a couple cool gift ideas.Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about some fun stocking stuffers. Have fun!
Let’s start out with some big ticket dream items.
#1 Ticket to Social Media Marketing World
On the top of many lists was a ticket to the 2015 Social Media Marketing World in San Diego on March. You’ve heard me mention how as I built my business, I found it really important to attend events. (Personal share) One of my favorite events is SMMW. Not only is it in San Diego It has 100 different expert lead sessions It’s well attended by 2500 people (Personal share) Last year I was one of the speakers I met many of you and…..
#2 Additional Online Training
Another top item on many lists is additional online training. Some of you might want to put some kind of social media training on your list while others of you might have Marie Forleo’s B-school in mind. I loved Andrea Vahl’s Facebook Advertising Secrets!
As an social media manager, you’ve got to be on top of trends and the fact there are 8 new mobile social users every second is staggering according to key mobile networks.
In fact there are there are 1.12 billion mobile active users (Source: Facebook as of 10/28/14) an increase of 29 percent year-over-year.
With those stats, I happily put the new iphone 6 Plus on our holiday essentials list. As Mashable’s Ryan Lytle says “The 6 Plus has made me more productive and a more active mobile user.” It has a better camera, shoots great video and has lots of screen real estate to manage your client sites while you are on the go.
#3 Bonus: 3 favorite iphone Accessories
Tripod: Joby’s MPod Mini holds a variety of phones perfect for watching videos great for recording yourself for your website small enough to be portable flexible leg joints work great on lots of surfaces
Microphone: Mikey Digital ultra-compact stereo condenser microphone turns your iPhone or iPad into the sleekest mobile recording device around capture pristine recordings of live music, audio for video, podcasts, interviews, guitar and vocals
Mobile Charger: Monster Mobile PowerCardPortable Battery I swear by this… its credit card sized so I carry it with a 4” cable in my wallet. It charges up to 3x faster than standard chargers provides 5 hours of energy to your Smartphone works for iPad too.
Why would an online marketer need this? One of my favorite social media gurus and podcasters, Amy Porterfield has talked about how a teleprompter helps her present her videos professionally. In episode #39, she recommended 2 teleprompter kits, but I’ve found a couple of ipad apps that are pretty cool and much less expensive and are a great way to test out a teleprompter without an expensive commitment.
